SSA Chris Maffei began his law enforcement career in 2008 with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa, Florida where he worked patrol, proactive street crimes, and became an intelligence detective focused on career criminals and gang investigations. While off-duty, he was an undergraduate professor of criminal justice at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida. SSA Maffei onboarded with the FBI in 2015 and was assigned to the Phoenix Field Office to work violent crime matters, including large scale violent robbery investigations, Top Ten fugitives, and threats to life. SSA Maffei then transitioned to the global counterintelligence threat, focusing on Russian, Iranian, and Cuban threats in Arizona. SSA Maffei was promoted to the FBI’s Washington D.C. headquarters in December 2022 and was assigned to the Office of Congressional Affairs. In that role, SSA Maffei was the FBI’s liaison to the House Judiciary and House Oversight Committees and had regular interaction with Members of Congress and their staffers on FBI items of interest. In late 2023, SSA Maffei was selected to lead the FBI’s Fort Worth Violent Crime Squad, which is responsible for the FBI’s violent crime, gang, drug trafficking, and crimes against children investigations in Tarrant, Parker, Johnson, Wise, Hood, Palo Pinto, Erath, and Comanche counties. SSA Maffei has spent a career responding to and investigation complex criminal activity and crisis events.
